Indigenous Drums for Indigenous Students

St Stephen’s plans to celebrate our focus during Indigenous People’s History Month with a special outreach project. Because of our ongoing relationship with Iqaluit Music Camp, we  have decided to continue our support of the music schools there. When we approached Darlene Nuqingaq, the music teacher who has been a regular visitor to our congregation, she mentioned drums. Students in Grades K – 2 need Inuit drums, sized for primary students, so they too can learn this vibrant part of their own culture.  Drums could be made by a local Inuit artisan, for $250 each.   Parishioners and other supporters are invited to donate to this project through any of your regular channels, including e-transfer to or through the Canada Helps link on the main page of our website. Donations will be accepted up until July 15, 2021.
